A Domain Name is the "something.com" name that you see all over the Internet. There are several types of Domain Names, such as the .com for commercial companies, .org for non-profit organizations, and .net for Internet related companies.

You buy the right to own a Domain Name for approximately $30 per year from a company such as NetWork Solutions. Click on the Network Solutions link to test whether the Domain Name you want is still available. When planning your own, shiny new Domain Name, remember to keep it short. If people can't easily remember it, they probably can't type it into their browser.

There are secondary registers of Domain Names besides Network Solutions, but they usually make it somewhere between hard and impossible to move your Domain Name. Network Solutions is the original register of Domain Names, and still the easiest to use.
