PC and Network Security Tips

A ugly part in computing today is the fact that there are an uncountable number of people who would like to break into your network and computers.  Some want to do it for fun, some for profit and some because they are just mentally deranged and morally bankrupt.

The bare minimum that anyone connected to the Internet or another computers needs for security is a Firewall.  This can be a hardware based firewall such as the kind installed in routers used by home users and small businesses.  It can also be a software firewall running on individual PC's, such as Zone Alarm's well known product.

Firewalls for computers were named because they for computers what a brick firewall does for a building - keeps the bad stuff on the outside.  Brick firewalls keep fire from spreading from one part of a byuilding to another.  Computerized firewalls keep malicious cyber traffic out of your network and computers.
