1.      =              On the toolbar click Start, click Run, type Msconfig, and then c= lick OK.

2.      =              Click Adva= nced, and select the Disable Scandisk= after bad shutdown option.

3.      =              Click OK twice, and then click Yes to restart your computer.NOTE: For Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition, this procedure adds AutoScan=3D0 to the [Options] section of the Msdos.sys file. For Wi= ndows Me, this procedure adds a Binary value named DisableSc= andiskOnBoot to the following registry key and sets its value to 01: <= /p>

Al= though Windows may seem to shut down correctly, ScanDisk may run the next time you start the computer.

 

During the shutdown process, the contents of the virtu= al cache are written to the destination device. If the destination device is an Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE) hard disk, data may be written to the ha= rd disk's onboard cache but not to the disk itself. When this occurs, the data= is lost from the cache when the computer turns off.

 

Th= e CacheWriteDelay<= /span> value specifies the number of milliseconds of delay. To modify this value: =

1.      =        Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

2.      =        Locate and click the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

3.      =        On the Edi= t menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

4.      =        Type CacheWriteDelay to name the= new value, and then press ENTER.

5.      =        Right-click the CacheWriteDelay value,= and then click Modify.

6.      =        Under Base= , click Decimal. =

7.      =        In the Val= ue data box, type 2000, and then c= lick OK.

8.      =        Quit Registry Editor.

9.      =        Shut down and restart the computer. Permit Windows to finish running ScanDisk and wait for the Windows desktop to appear. Then, shut down and restart the computer again to determ= ine if ScanDisk runs at startup.<= /p>
