One of the problems you can encounter with Windows 200=
0 is
corrupt security settings. An indication that Windows 2000's security setti=
ngs
are corrupt is when you're unable to open administrative tools such as Acti=
ve
Directory Users And Computers or Active Directory
Sites And Services. In this scenario, you might receive an error message su=
ch
as "Naming information cannot be located because: Logon attempt failed.
Contact your system administrator to verify that your domain is properly
configured and is currently online." Another error message you might
receive is "The configuration information describing this enterprise is
not available. The logon attempt failed." If you're experiencing this
problem, the best solution is for you to rebuild the Windows 2000 security
settings. To do so, begin by opening a Command Prompt window. Next, enter t=
he
following commands:

secedit /configure /cfg
x:\winnt\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb

secedit /configure /cfg
x:\winnt\repair\secdc.inf /db secdc.sdb

In this syntax, replace x: with the drive letter on wh=
ich
you've installed Windows 2000. When the restore is complete, you should be =
able
to open Active Directory Users And Computers wit=
hout
any problems.
