QUESTION:= Okay, I know I'm a little b= ehind the times. I just upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98 and all of my prog= rams are still there, but when I open Outlook Express, my mail folders, messages= and address book are missing. Is there a way to get them back? - Jeanne =

ANSWER: Your mail data is almost certainly still there, but Outlook Express can't find it because XP's file structure is different and the files it needs are in a different location. Here's how to find your old messages and mail folders:

  1. Create a new folder on the desktop. Name it "XPMail."
  2. Click Start and then Search.
  3. Select All files and folders in the box th= at asks what you want to search for.
  4. Type ".dbx" in the field that as= ks for all or part of the file name. This is the extension for your mailb= ox files.
  5. Click More Advanced Options and select = Search hidden files and folders.
  6. Click Search.

T= he search engine will locate your .dbx (mailbox) files. You can copy them to t= he new folder. Now you can import the mail folders into Outlook Express using = the Import selection on the File menu. The wizard will walk you through the ste= ps.
